New Season! Clare Vivier LA & Cheap Monday, Sweden + News!

Hi Everyone!

Guitar hero Thurston Moore and his new band Chelsea Light Moving

played a fantastic show at The Hi-Fi last Saturday night.
There's no mistaking the familiar sounds of his voice and guitar that we loved
from his Sonic Youth years but his solo work is also impressive and helped
along by the talents of guitarist Keith Wood, John Moloney on drums and Samara Lubeski
on bass and violin.

Thurston and band found time to drop in to Winn Lane the next day for a spot of
shopping and lunch at Flamingo Cafe as did Billy Bragg only days earlier.
We're a hot spot!

Unfortunately, I didn't get to the show early enough to see the support who was
Melbourne artist/musician Marco Fusinato who recently exhibited and performed
at Brisbane's Institute of Modern Art.
From all sources, he was amazing.

I love Clare's modern, simple pieces.
It's all about low branding and very little hardware but still so distinctive.

The long sleeve, striped Tarn T-Shirt is one of the most exciting things

that I've seen in menswear for a while.
It harkens Sarah Thorne and Bruce Slorach's Funk Essentials label from the early 90's.
Is it time for The Guru? If not, I'll take The Happy Mondays.
Cheap Monday in-store now at The Outpost!

Tickets are now on sale for the 2012 QUT Fashion Graduate parade.
It's only two nights this year and I've heard tickets are selling fast
so jump in, if you'd like to see what the students have been up to.
I've seen all the collections and they are very modern!

Here is a little preview one of the collections by Austin Moro.
Stunning!
The shows are on Wednesday the 21st (two seatings) and Thursday
the 22nd of November.
You can buy tickets here:

Sexy Tex Perkins and his Dark Horses are playing at The Zoo
next week on Thursday the 8th of November.
Supporting them is Mike Noga from The Drones.

While we're talking rock and roll, there are some absolutely extraordinary major
shows coming up over the next couple of months.
If you haven't got tickets already, here are some on my hit list...

Primal Scream!

Bobby Gillespie. He's still got it and rates in my Top 10 All Time Potential Rock Husbands along with Jarvis Cocker and Nick Cave.
Monday December 3rd @ The Tivoli

Blondie, The Saints and The Stranglers!

Debbie Harry. Not only a babe but displaying one of the best examples of double denim that you will ever see.
Thursday December 13th @ Brisbane Riverstage

Elvis Costello & The Imposters, The Sunnyboys, Jo Jo Zep & The Falcons,
Tex Perkins & The Dark Horses and Stephen Cummings!
Elvis and The Sunnyboys and Tex. It's too amazing for words.
Sunday February 3rd
A Day on the Green, Mount Cotton

My Bloody Valentine!
If you can't make it to All Tomorrow's Parties in Melbourne, this is your sideshow.
Wednesday February 20th @ The Tivoli

The 19th Greek Film Festival opened last night at Palace Centro.
I'm heading there tonight to see Wasted Youth, a drama (what else?) which
was described by Neos Kosmos as one of the finest Greek films of the last
couple of years.

The Brisbane programme is very small with only 6 screenings in total which concludes
this Sunday night, so get on to it now if you're interested.
Surprising considering the huge Greek population in Brisbane but maybe I'm biased!

The festival is running concurrently in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide
where the programme is much more extensive.
You can see all the details for each city here:

Here's a bit of classic Greek cinema from 1970 with Giannis Kalatzis singing
Kyra Giorgena - for my Dad (XO) and all of the other George's out there! Enjoy!

Yassou!
Thea X
