Introducing...VERNER Melbourne & PALACE London!

Hi Everyone!

I popped down to Sydney on Monday to see some more
treats like the Provensen AW13 shoe collection and the latest
jewellery delights from Adriana Giuffrida's extraordinary POMS.

Jane Morley, Alison Robinson, Me, Karen Turnbull and Monique White feeling the VISION of Vreeland!

On Monday night, a little  group of about 18 of us saw our first BIFF
film for the festival, the documentary called Diana Vreeland: The Eye Has to Travel.

I gave the film 5 stars and can't wait to see it again.
It was very funny and very inspiring.
If you happened to miss it, luckily the film now has a season release
and will open next Thursday night the 22nd at 6:30pm at Palace Centro on a new
night called Premiere Thursday!

Premiere Thursdays will feature special treats and giveaways and
to celebrate the opening of Diana Vreeland, we are giving away 2 x $100 vouchers!

All the films I've seen so far at BIFF have been great but my other higlight
was Marina Abramovic: The Artist is Present.
That's another 5 stars from me.  What a woman.

There has been a lot of talk recently about the decline of print media.
I couldn't disagree more.
I've never really been one for the throw aways or the gossip magazines
but I really identify with quality print that you have the desire to keep
on your bookshelf.
I'm advocate for turning off the television (AND the computer) and having a
quiet, uninterrupted read.
I'm a advocate of The Gentlewoman, Purple Magazine, i-D, Another, Self Service
Apartamento, Another, Dazed & Confused and Fantastic Man.

The latest Fantastic Man (AW12 issue)  is such a good read that I thought I'd share a little
bit with you and hope that you might go an buy it.

Here are a couple of amusing excerpts from a story titled -
UGH
SOME THINGS TO DETEST

FLAT AND WHITE
The Flat White, the smuggest of coffees, consisting of a shot of espresso topped with hot milk, but
bereft of the latter's most capricious characteristic - froth - is a drink prepared exclusively by a
stock character who, himself, is always smug, flat and white - and who confuses barrista skills
with the predictable cool of the fixed-gear bicycle, an armful of regrettable tattoos and a
charity plimsole.

FRAGRANT WAX
The apparently popularly held illusion that the addition of a measure of scent to a common
household staple, the wax candle, bestows upon it a sense of luxury and elegance.

AIR FORCE
The experience of being on a long-haul flight - whether in economy or business -
on which first wine is manically poured and then blinds are suddenly drawn and
lights switched off before one has even had a sip, and on which a sorry imitation
of a proper breakfast is served 90 minutes before landing - 90 minutes that could,
and should, have been used for glorious sleep.

WRAP
The practice, favoured by a staggering majority of lunch outlets, of ruining perfectly good
food by serving it wrapped in a cardboard-like, wheaten sheaf and attaching to it the fallacy
that the 'wrap'  somehow, constitutes a healthier choice.

Melbourne based Ingrid Verner was the V in the Australian label
TV which rose to international status, even doing a collaboration
for Topshop.
TV decided to call it a day back in 2010 but Ingrid with itchy feet had the call
and bounced back with this, her debut solo project.

The collection was first inspired philosophically by Leigh Bowery
as an Australian icon followed by Tapa Textiles from the Pacific
Islands and the Ballet Russes.
It's a kind of sports luxe collection with a definite Australian heart.
Hand dyed marbled silks are mixed with bold coloured cottons in
architectural shapes and some hand drawn prints.
It's all loads of fun and so easy wear!
Verner is available exclusively in Queensland at Blonde Venus and The Outpost!
