It's a great time of year to work in the store when
everyone flies back in to Brisbane from all over to see their
families - and we get lots of visits too.
Again, thank you for your amazing support over the years.
and your kind words and encouragement.
It keeps us going!
I caught up with Abby Bennet for New Year's Eve.
She was back for a break from her job with Dazed & Confused
in London.
We started the night off at No Year's at The Powerhouse specifically to
see The Dum Dum Girls play...
They looked and sounded amazing and counted us into 2012.
We then made our way to Woodland where we watched
The Otchkies play and then successfully stayed on the dancefloor
until around 4am thanks to Chester's playlist.
After a snoozy week, the live music shows really stepped up this week
with these big shows - The Fleet Foxes, Group Love, Dan Deacon, Beirut and Alpine
as well as debut shows from new local bands The Naked Maja and Ex Con.
The next big one is Thee Oh Sees who are playing this Sunday night
at Woodland with Sydney favourites The Straight Arrows and local
band Knee Chin.
You may remember that Thee Oh Sees had to cancel their Brisbane show
this time last year, due to flood week so it's great that they came back!
I was lucky enough to see them play at the Newcastle Summer Vibes Festival
and am looking forward to a reprise.

Richard Nicoll continues his successful collaboration with London based
artist Linder Sterling with these colourful prints on his designs.
This is the first delivery from his Resort Collection and we will be
receiving some jersey pieces in these prints shortly.

I met Erin Lightfoot while she was completing her BA in Fashion at QUT.
Her graduate collection of 2010 was a bright and colourful ready to wear
collection of resort style pieces with an emphasis on her original print designs
which won her the Westfield Retail Ready Award.

Since graduating, Erin has been exploring and expanding on her print designs on to
different mediums which led to these fabulous porcelain bangles.
Now with her own kiln in her studio, Erin hand makes her bangles from start to finish
sourcing all elements from Australia.
The bangles come giftboxed, are available in two sizes and each design is made in a limited edition
run to keep them special.

Exhibition by French, UK
There's nothing like going out with a bang.
Sadly, the boys from Nine Lives have decided to close their permanent space on
Winn Street and this weekend only exhibition which opens on the 19th will be the final show there.
It's a nice tribute for the gallery as you might remember that French had a show in
their first space above Mellinos back in 2009.
His fine and intricate drawings inspired by such things as death metal were in hot demand
at that show and I'm just expecting this to be a big, big night!
The Nine Lives Gallery has been an important movement in Brisbane, helping awaken
our laneways again (before people even thought about it) but mostly breaking down
the boundaries held between traditional art gallery spaces and youth and popular culture.
