Gossip at Parklife last Saturday night
My dear friend, Lyndell Mansfield was visiting from London ever so briefly
over the weekend as she was on tour with Portland based band Gossip.
Lyndell is an internationally renowned hair stylist and the beauty editor of Lula Magazine
and also very good friends of Beth Ditto's which is why Beth always has amazingly
manicured locks.
So, I got to meet and hang out with Gossip and good friends on Friday night (dinner at Libertine followed
by Woodland and then The Beat ?!) and then again on Saturday night and watched
them play a fantastic show at Parklife followed by the after party.
Phew!

Lavazza Italian Film Festival 2011
On Tuesday night, I went to Palace Barracks cinema
for the opening of the annual Italian Film Festival.
I was expecting an enjoyable evening but this party
ended up being so big, Monique and I likened it to an
Italian wedding!
We enjoyed the film Welcome to the South (Benvenuti Al Sud)
a light hearted comedy with lots of beautiful Italian scenery.
Post movie, hundreds of people crammed into the centre of
the Barracks for endless glasses of wine and food, espresso martinis,
icecream and a band (think That's Amore).
The atmosphere was fantastic.
The festival continues at both Palace Barracks and Palace Centro cinemas
until October 23rd.

It was a tongue in cheek remark identifying the A Detacher girl

Holly Ryan achieved a a Bachelor Degree in Fine Art Fashion at QUT last year.
She accesorised her graduate collection with some hand made sterling silver
jewellery pieces from which she received a great response and then launched
her Lush Life Collection of sterling silver studs and bolo ties.

Now trained in the art of silver smithing by her parents who learnt their skill in the legendary
Mexican city of Taxco, renowned for it's incredible history of silver work,
Holly has chanelled a little of this flavour into her first full jewellery collection.

All pieces are completely hand made in Brisbane by Holly, using solid sterling silver
including custom chains and all pieces come beautifully boxed making them perfect
for a special gift.

in Orange Leopard, hot off the truck in Sydney on the weekend.

McLaren Pottery

Gus McLaren was an Australian artist, animator and potter.
In the 1950's he and his wife Betty set up the Yarraridge Pottery
and together and separately produced and extensive body of work.
Gus designed the famous Freddo the Frog character in 1962 and
worked prolifically until his passing in 2008.
Luckily his wife Betty is still keen and continues to produce these fabulous designs
that they originally worked on together.

Lead actor Willem Dafoe was actually in Brisbane last week for the film's preview
at Palace Centro.
The Hunter is the story of Martin (Willem Dafoe) a mercenary sent from Europe by an
anonymous biotech company to the Tasmanian wilderness on a dramatic hunt
for the last Tasmanian Tiger.
Based on the novel of the same name by acclaimed author Julia Leigh, the film is a psycological
thriller and also stars Frances O'Connor and Sam Neill.
