New! Above, Lover, Karen Walker Jewellery & Introducing Christopher Esber! 29-10-10

Hi Everyone!

Another exhausting week as I had to cram in another
quick trip to Sydney to view some more collections -
Karen Walker (F.U.N.) and Dion Lee (AMAZING)

I ducked in quickly to the Australian Centre for Photography
which is located at 257 Oxford Street in Paddington, a welcome
relief from all of the surrounding chain stores.

Last night I saw Gemma Smith's wonderful new paintings at Milani
Gallery.
Can someone please buy me a piece from this exhibition?!

Here's the latest news from both stores...

Christopher Esber, Sydney
"Implode" Spring/Summer 10/11

The Missing Button Shirt in White with Pale Blue $440
The Scaffolding Skirt in Pale Blue $890

The Coverup Top in Black Japanese Leather $836

The Pleat Slip Skirt in Black $480

Men's Block Shirt with Bra Detailing $480

Christopher Esber graduated from Ultimo TAFE in 2007 and first showed
at Australian Fashion Week in 2009 as part of a graduate show also
including Dion Lee.

His debut solo show earlier this year was highly applauded as one of the
best shows of the week not only for the collection but it's presentation.
The models finished their run down the catwalk by lining up against a stark
white wall for the entire duration of the show so that we could scrutinize
them for a whole lot longer.

Christopher is obsessed with garment construction and with this collection he
referenced building demolition and reconstruction, internal (building) explosions
for the purpose of progress and taking down the old to make way for the new.

His aim was to make the silhouette appear like it was collapsing while
forming a lot of construction underneath to achieve this.

Each garment has story which follows this process.
The "Men's Block Shirt" is finished on the inside with bra construction,
complete with underwire.

The Scaffolding Skirt is supported by a satin caged petticoat,  it's
bizarre "anti-pleating" clashes traditional with avant garde.

The Square Bib Tank Tops are in a chunky cotton rib but are lined
with soft silk tulle as are the Suede T-Shirts.

Styles we have received (that aren't pictured) are -
the Cropped Tux Shirt in Cream Check Silk/Cotton with Neoprene Buttons $310
the Square Bib Rib Tank in Pale Blue Cotton with Silk Tulle lining $290
the Panel Block Tee in Black Suede and also Pale Blue Suede $638

Some sizes have already flown out the door but don't miss out on at least
seeing these pieces in real life.
Clothing should always feel this special.

also known as the SOYA Awards.
It's labels like AboveCarly HunterDion LeeChristopher Esber...
that give us confidence in Australian design and hope for the future
of Australian fashion.

Let's face it - emerging labels can be "a dime a dozen" but we can only
cope with so many strapless mini dresses with bows attached.
Give us something meaningful, lasting, design focussed.
Wow, maybe I should not have had that extra coffee!
Seriously though, Above design interesting pieces that are great wardrobe keepers
and all of their pieces are made in Australia and still so well priced!

I love the "Giant Suit" and the Scarf Dress is one to play with as it can
be adapted and worn in different ways.
ABOVE is available exclusively in Queensland at The Outpost!

So Happy Halloween whatever that means.
I'm not into ghoulish stuff but I did however grow
up with this song from one of my favourite old albums
by the Dead Kennedys.
I'm warning you now, it's pretty heavy duty...

If that's a bit much, I'll leave you with this early 1970's cartoon delight -
