New! Natalia Brilli Paris, BStore London & MORE ANTIPODIUM! 31-07-09

Hi Everyone!

I enviously waved bye to Siobhan who is off to NYC again this week and
I clearly remember saying to her that there wasn't
as much on at the moment.
I was delirious.

This year I have been involved with a fab exhibition for
the Museum of Brisbane and it's nearly finished for you
to take a look at.

Entitled In Fashion, the exhibition looks at dressing up
for special occasions from Brisbane dressmakers to designers
over it's 150 year history.
That's a lot of parties!

I have been assisting them with a video piece that captures
Brisbane designers and Brisbane fashion culture from 1980
onwards.
It's been so much fun, so I hope that you can make it along.
The exhibition opens on the 7th of August from 10am to 5pm daily
and entry is free :

Last week, Maree Brady and I saw Opera Queensland's
production of Fidelio.
This was Beethoven's only opera and was written and performed
in German so it has quite a different feel to the "fluid" Italian operas.
The contemporary staging and production was simple but strong
and quite witty.
The outcome was uplifting and spirited.
The next big one is Rigoletto which opens in October.

I saw Michelle Pfeiffer's new film Cheri this week.
This has had some mixed reviews but I loved it.
Michelle was stunning and I LOVED Rupert Friend
in (and out) of his dapper wardrobe.
I'm going to see it again...

Don't forget that the Brisbane International Film
Festival is on now.

On Tuesday night we saw the Graduate Parade
at Moreton Institute of Tafe which was well
hosted by the witty Leigh Buchanan.

Thursday night we went to the Press Club's
11th Birthday Party where we had just
a few too many French Martinis.
Quite a few of us there had been to the original
opening which was THE place at the time due
to it's style and amazing interior.
It still looks contemporary today.

Tonight we are heading to another Up Late show at
the GoMA, this time for Australian punk legend
Kim Salmon (The Scientists, Beasts of Bourbon).

Natalia Brilli was born in Belgium and studied at the
Cambre School in Brussels.
She initially combined working between fashion and
theatre before launching her own collection in 2004
which was instantly bought by prestige stores including
Maria Luisa, Browns and Barneys.
At this time Natalia also designed accessories for
Rochas with Olivier Theyskens.
Probably Natalia's most instantly recognisable pieces
from her first collection are her leather "pearl" and bow
sautoirs and bracelets, which she still continues today.

I have always admired her work which has been creatively
evolving every season.
The level of difficulty in her pieces seems to know no boundaries
which are all hand made in Paris.

I was blown away by this window display that we saw in Paris
last year during fashion week - the band is life size and every
single piece is covered in leather!

We have more pieces in store than I have photographed including
her classic pearl clutch, a lambskin shoulder bag with tassel and charms,
a headpiece in aged silver leather...
Come in and take a peek!
