Face Facts / Stephen Mok Exhibition
Stephen Mok has been working on lots of projects for others in recent times including branding
for Flamingo Cafe and a close relationship with Easton Pearson including their seasonal windows
as well as many textile print designs.
His naive and colourful style is distinctive and energetic.
I'm lucky enough to have a few of Stephen's works and they make me happy every time
I walk by them.

I can't wait to see this, his first full solo show in 4 years!
Face Facts is presented by Mild Manners and is showing from the K.o.M.A Artspace
(above Ksubi on James Street).
The show opens at 6pm tonight, Thursday the 22nd of August and runs until October the 13th.
This will be busy and sell out fast!

The Queensland Poetry Festival
Letter.Box.Stamp.Collect courtesy of Pascalle Burton

The festival based at the Judith Wright Centre, only runs for a few days from Friday the 23rd
to Sunday the 25th of August but take a scroll the packed programme…

It includes interesting poetry installations like Letter. Box. Stamp. Collect.
Curated by Brisbane poet Pascalle Burton, this project features intimate
contributions from a long list of Brisbane contemporaries
including Sandra Selig, Leighton Craig and Heinz Reigler based on the
time lost art of letterboxing.

Chicks on Speed + Fresh Cut Exhibition
Alex Murray-Leslie from Chicks on Speed demonstrates the "Tapestry with Sound" on opening night

While you're at the Judith Wright pop down stairs to the IMA for these
incredible exhibitions.
The Chicks On Speed exhibition is a vibrant, interactive mood lifter.
Be prepared to feel enlightened and happy!

Caitlin Franzmann works being interacted with on opening night

Also showing now is the first part of the IMA's annual Fresh Cut exhibition
for emerging artists.
I'm a big fan of Caitlin Franzmann and wait until you see her giant
interactive helmets.
Wear your hair down, get one on and go for a stroll.
It's totally liberating.

Fauxpas Exhibition

Another exciting emerging artist's show featuring Antoinette J Citizen, Charles Dennington,
Genevieve Reynolds, Jared Worthington and Matthew Greaves.
I'm already a fan of Genevieve Reynolds' layered and scraped paintings but Charles Dennington's
installation for this show is particularly impressive!
Fauxpas opens this Friday night, the 23rd of August from 6pm to 8pm at Ryan Renshaw Gallery
and the show runs until September the 7th.

Christopher Howlett / New Dawn

Boxcopy celebrate their new dawn as they debut their new gallery space
at 282 Petrie Terrace, Spring Hill with an exhibition by Australian based
contemporary artist Christopher Howlett.
The show at the new space debuts at 6pm this Friday the 23rd of August
and runs until the 14th of September.

Erin Lightfoot / Collection Two
Operetta

Erin Lightfoot is a Brisbane based designer producing print rich textiles
and ceramics.
Her second collection entitled Succession retains her popular bangle shapes but
also introduces earrings, vases and silk scarves, inspired by Edwardian tile patterns
and the Exposition Universelle of 1900.

Erin is previewing this collection at The Box this Friday night the 23rd of August
from 6pm to 9m.

On Friday night the 23rd of August you can see Multiple ManSilver Screens (album launch)
Kigo and Charles Buddy Daaboul (7" launch) at The Waiting Room, West End.

On Saturday night the 24th, you can go back to The Waiting Room and see
Multiple Man again along with Melbourne's Nth Wheel (tape launch)
and Scissor.

Both of these shows will be extremely reasonably priced entry, all ages,
well behaved and an early evening :)

Also on Saturday night, Trainspotters is hosting Soviet X-Ray Record Club
for their single launch and they are supported by Brisbane's Wolver,
Sydney's Charles Buddy Daaboul (again!) and also Brisbane's
Pale Earth.
As always, this will be free entry and late ;)

Thank you to all of these amazing local galleries, venues and businesses
that support emerging artists and talented creatives.
We are on the same page, as they say.

Thea X
