Hi Everyone!
I saw My Week With Marilyn last night.
What a sweet film and a nice escape in to another world.
I was hesitant about seeing Michelle Williams or anyone in fact,
playing Marilyn Monroe as I have watched Marilyn's films over and over...
but I thought that she was quite wonderful.
Marilyn, in fact was my inspiration to name the store Blonde Venus.
Even though Blonde Venus is actually a Marlene Dietrich film, I had such a girl crush
on Marilyn and I was swept away by the whole romanticism of the Hollywood bombshell.
The Prince and the Showgirl is actually my least favourite Marilyn film but if you feel
like watching some, try Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, Some Like It Hot, Niagara,
How to Marry a Millionaire and Bustop is hilarious.
If you're keen for more, I also love All About Eve which is more about the incredible
Bette Davis but it was probably Marilyn's first important film.
Are you still following the shows?
The winter collections are often difficult for us to associate being a part of our lives
but oh, those beautiful coats.
Here are some more of my highlights from London and Milan...
I saw one of Meadham Kirchoff's first ever shows years ago at Fashion East in London when it was a serious menswear collection.
It couldn't have made a more dramatic transformation.
I don't love everything but I can hear my inner Ziggy Startdust calling.
I'm thinking that the sequin suit would be great to wear to Ga Ga ;)

Prada! You know how I love a matching suit and look at those textiles.

More Dior than Dior!
Raf Simons' final show for Jil Sander shows us what a genius he is and I'm hoping that he takes the job at Dior to reclaim
the esteem that the label once had.
I can SO see Ingrid Bergman swishing around in some of these.

This was the least Marni looking Marni collection I've ever seen and I much preferred it though it would have been great to also see a
fresher approach with the shoes.
The MOD surfaces again.

Christophe Lemaire chose to do a presentation like so many of the younger labels and it really works.
The clothes are so beautiful that they don't need the drama of a grand scale runway show though
it will be interesting to see what he does for Hermes this season.

New at The Outpost...for your viewing pleasure
Chuck Close
A wonderful documentary from the late flmmaker Marion Cajori
on the work of contemporary American painter Chuck Close.
Chuck was left paralyzed by a spinal artery blockage and through
incredible will and determination continued to paint despite his
disability by devising an elaborate system of pullies and levers.
So astounding and inspiring.

This 1991 cult classic follows five different cab drivers
in five different cities (LA, NY, Paris, Rome & Helsinki) and their interesting clients
and journeys on this one eventful night.
It stars Winona Ryder and soundtrack is by Tom Waits.

Exhibition Opening!
Megan Cope: Deep Water
Archie Moore: Ten Missions from God
work by Archie Moore
Brisbane based artists Megan Cope and Archie Moore are
launching their latest works together tonight at Spiro/Grace Art Rooms
from 6pm to 8pm
This sneak preview from Archie is a paper sculpture constructed from a bible
and looks incredible.
The gallery is at 255 Gregory Terrace, Spring Hill and the exhibition will run
until the 31st of March.
Bonnie Prince Billy
GoMA Uplate
Tonight is the final up late date for the Matisse Exhibition
so if you haven't seen it yet, now is your chance.
At this late stage, there are apparently a very limited number of tickets available
at the door!
American singer, songwriter Will Oldham performing under his stage name of
Bonnie Prince Billy should make for quite a memorable experience
in the wonderful gallery space.
His performance will be preceded with a talk from renowned contemporary
artist Michael Zavros at 6:30pm.
Black Lips @ The Zoo
All the way from Atlanta, Georgia the Black Lips describe themselves
as "flower punk".
To me, they're a little bit country and a big bit rock and roll.
They are just lots of mad fun and I'm really looking forward to
seeing them play tonight with local bands Cannon and Tiny Migrants.
Tickets are $50 on the door.
If you are in the mood for dancing, the official after party is naturally at Woodland
with DJs Earl Grey playing early followed by Angus/The Otchkies and
Jeremy/Velociraptor.
Entry is free with a Zoo stamp!
If you are keen for more, the Future Music Festival is on at Doomben
on Saturday (the 3rd).
It sounds like hours and hours of dancefloor fun with the likes of Fatboy Slim,
The Rapture and even New Order in it's original line sans Peter Hook.
See you soon!
