New Season! Dion Lee... 26th February 2010

Hi Everyone,

New York band, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart were
fantastic at The Zoo last week and also a nice surprise
were Melbourne band The Crayon Fields.
I have been playing both albums all week...

We didn't make it to either of the festivals on the weekend
but we did have the pleasure of a visit from Jane's Addiction
lead singer, Perry Farrell.
What a really cool guy with amazing taste in clothes and he doesn't
mind a bit of a dress up.
Perry picked up a few specials pieces while he was here
and on Wednesday night, he wore his new Dhini sequin
waistcoat on stage at The Palace in Melbourne.

I have been glued to my computer all week, all over
London Fashion Week...

Highlights from London Fashion Week
The London Fashion Week website has been a wonderful
source of information this week, as have amazing sponsor's sites
like Topshop and Swarovski giving us blogs, videos and
detail shots of the exciting fashion coming from the world's
most innovative fashion week.

Our labels were high on HOT ticket list and did not disappoint.
Watch this inspiring video from London Grazia editor, Paula Reed
on the final day of LFW -

Mary Katrantzou
Mary added more shape and texture this season, with these incredible pieces inspired by 18th century portraiture,
in particular Madame de Pompadour.
Her jewellery for the collection was also stunning and added another rich layer to her pieces.

Richard Nicoll
My favourite and many other's too going on the RAVE reviews that Richard received for this contemporary collection.
For a winter collection, it is sultry and sizzling.
I love the tailoring, the draping, the sheer and opaque layers, the Linder Sterling print AND the Bulldog Clips. So cool!

Peter Pilotto
Peter and Christopher presented another smoldering collection which started by referencing 1970's interiors.
I can definitely see that, as I am currently sitting opposite our large collection of brown and orange swirly vintage German pottery.
The show included interesting contrasts of their now signature flattering, draped printed shapes with kind of '90's Jil Sander-esque
sharp trousers, jackets and strappy sandals.
The addition of leather and fur didn't make the collection fall into "vintage" category - somehow their cunning combinations just look really modern.

BStore
We have been stocking the B Store men's collection for over three years now and I
always love it.
Their style really suits the BV aesthetic.
For some reason they have been keen to add a women's collection to the brand which hasn't quite
worked until now.
London based women's wear designer Natascha Stolle created these simple but cool, modern pieces
for the B Store label.

Marios Schwab

Marios is of Greek/Austrian heritage and usually leans to the Grecian side for his inspiration.
He only just presented a beautiful collection in New York as the new creative director for Halston.
For his own line,  he drew influence from the traditional Austrian dirndl and created these superb,
immaculate pieces, with a focus on necklines.

Here's what has just arrived in-store...

Rib Pleat Dress available in Black $820

Armour Cropped Jacket available in Black $890

Pleated Spiral Vest available in Black $550

How do you follow up a collection that was lauded as the best
of Australian Fashion Week last year?
The Dion Lee SS09/10 collection has been continuously photographed and written
about in virtually every magazine, every month since it's release!

I guess that you could start by getting one of your
new collection pieces on the cover of Vogue?!

Young designers often suffer from "follow-up jitters".
It is an enormous pressure to come back with something of an
equal or hopefully a stronger message.
It is perhaps a winning follow-up collection that actually cements
a designer's longevity.

I was so thrilled to see this new collection from Dion and blown
away by the skill of such a young designer.
His is a standard that would feature well on any international runway.

This is the first delivery from his new season collection, with more
to come.
We have also received:
the Scapular long sleeve T-Shirt in Black $350
the Waist Belt with Metal available in Black and also Bone $280
Dion Lee is available exclusively in Brisbane at Blonde Venus!

What's New at The Outpost?

Institute Stripe T-Shirt available in Navy (pictured) and also Tobacco $99

Wing Shirt available in Indigo Stone Wash (pictured) with white topstitch $160

Button Down Cotton Oxford Shirt available in Grey (pictured) and also Blue $136

Matrix Shirt available in Magnetic Blue (pictured) and also Blacksmith $159

Matrix Cap available in Ruby (pictured), Magnetic Blue and also Blacksmith $66

If you are following the men's runway trends, you may already be on to
the rugged, outdoor American sportswear look that has been gathering speed.
Team these Carhartt classics with some turned up, inky blue, Edwin Selvage Jeans,
some Desert or Timberland boots and maybe some scout badges.
Or maybe not.
Let's face it, we always stock Carhartt because it's classic indie cool
and we really like it.

This is the first delivery for the season, with more winter pieces including
sweats and knits, coming soon.
Carhartt in store now at The Outpost!

The new Nine Lives Gallery space opened last night to an
eager audience who have missed their presence over the last couple
of months.
The opening exhibition is by Australian artist, free surfer and lead
singer of the Goons of Doom, Ozzie Wright.

Have a great week!
