New Season! Mary Katrantzou, Arnsdorf, Dion Lee, P.A.M.... 12th March 2010

Hi Everyone!

We had a quick trip to Melbourne to get a preview of
Perks and Mini's collection for next season before they
whisked it off to Paris.
They are doing so well and have the most amazing
international following, especially in Japan.

The designers Misha Hollenbach and Shauna Toohey
took us out to lunch, to one of their favourite locals -
The Tofu Shop on Bridge Road in Richmond.
This place has been there since the 1970's and it's
longevity is a testament to the best vegetarian food
I have ever tasted!

Melbourne is a little dangerous on the waistline as there
are so many fab restaurants.
We ate at Movida and Cumulus Inc (mmm) and also
popped in to The Croft Institute and Cookie
for drinks.

Brisbane is fast gaining a reputation on the good food front,
especially with the addition of Ortiga.
Yes, I realise that Ortiga opened just before Christmas but
I have almost wanted to keep this one to myself before
it becomes too popular!
Bought to you by the owners of Isis and Alto Bar, Ortiga
has a cool bar upstairs and a restaurant downstairs with
the most incredible Spanish menu.

We have been hysterical this week as after months
of anticipation, The Flamingo Cafe opened it's doors
on Winn Street, directly opposite The Outpost.

It's been joyous to have the girls back in The Valley -
the energetic, effervescent Christina Hatzipetrou (The Main Squeeze,
Yo Mama, Desmond & Molly Jones) and Annette Gillespie
(the Main Squeeze, Cantina, Pearl Cafe) have joined forces
to give us a genuine laneway cafe with the best damn coffee
and delicious food around!

The cafe itself is as cute as a button featuring paintings
by Brisbane artist Stephen Mok and colourful Cartel
stools on Astro Turf under the chirpy yellow and white
striped awnings!

And like Ortiga, The Flamingo Cafe has made it's home
in an existing building with Brisbane history and character.

Here's the latest collections to arrive...

For her latest collection, Jade has referenced one of her
(and my) favourite American contemporary artists, Miranda July.
Miranda is a film maker, writer and artist, who has the most
amazing way of looking at people and life and a finds
unique ways of communicating her thoughts with us.

See her film: Me and You and Everyone We Know (2005)

Read her book: No One Belongs Here More Than You (2007)

Also, Learning To Love You More was a wonderful interactive
project where we were invited to participate in
assignments which were set up on the website.
A book has also been released from this project.

Jade describes this collection as a complete wardrobe that
that could be taken to a new city and offer solutions for any
occasion or situation.

obscure references but I always find it to be an enlightening journey.

La Planete Sauvage ie., The Fantastic Planet.

Every piece in the collection is cotton which makes them
incredibly comfortable and easy to look after.
Also, everything is made in Australia which is fantastic.

Ann-Sofie Back for Cheap Monday

Cut Out Tank available in Black $55
Cut Out Tank Dress available in Light Grey Marle $65

Cut Out Sweater Dress $85

These new collection pieces from Cheap Monday were designed by
Ann-Sofie Back and are a follow on from her own line's
Autumn/Winter '09.
The collection was called
Ann-Sofie Back Burns in Hell and was inspired by
horror films such as Poltergeist, Carrie, Friday the 13th...so there's lots
of slashed and ripped pieces in styles that are great to layer.

Other pieces include a western style dress in Washed Charcoal Denim with
frayed trim.
There are also some fantastic "bandaged" pieces - a black mesh top and
a grey jersey dress that are "taped up" with gaffer tape.
This capsule collection is available exclusively in Queensland
at The Outpost!

We saw Pavement play at The Tivoli on Wednesday night -
so good!
I think the last time I saw them play was at the Summersault
festival in 1996 with Beck and The Beastie Boys.
Good times.
Watching them play, all the memories came flooding back
and it's amazing how familiar the songs were again.

Last time the Horsemeat Disco boys were in town,
I just couldn't stop dancing.
It's time again, to stick on your moustache and take
your teddy bear for a night on the town...

and save this date...

I think that our first Lover delivery for the season
may be arriving today?
See you soon,
Thea X
