Hi Everyone!
Last night we went to an interesting concept show
at the Tribal Theatre.
Matt Kennedy is a local musician and a man with a passion
for the live music scene.
Not just any music but progressive sounds that are left of centre.
Over the last few years Matt has been playing in his own
bands (Look Pond, Kitchen's Floor) and over the last year, filming every
live show he could get to, with a hand held camera.
A fantastic documentation of the scene today, Matt has posted
up these moments on his own site Eternal Soundcheck and now
edited them into a fantastic film.
So, the film had it's debut screening last night to a huge audience
at the Tribal Theatre and was interspersed with musical
performances by local bands Knee Chin and also Gerald Keaney
and the Gerald Keaney's.
It's total new season fever at the moment and here's the latest...

I did a double take when I layed eyes on these earring threads
which I remember being de rigeur during high school.
I snapped up a pair of these stars and was ready to pull
out my Golden Breed sweatshirt and play some volleyball
down at the Nambour Police Youthclub.
Needless to say, the little critters are soooo cute ;)
This week, Karen staged another successfull runway show
in New York for Spring/Summer 2011.
Karen shows off her knack for interesting colour and print mixes - gold and sunny yellows,
bright orange, bluey lilac, pyjama florals with some straight edge wheat and striped linens
make for great separates that you can push as far as you like, depending on your mood.

Carly Hunter has had a big year.
Her first solo show at Australian Fashion Week in May
this year with this collection, received rave reviews
and Carly gained attention from mainstream media.
This week she has been announced as a finalist
in the SOYA awards (Spirit of Youth Australia)
which is an annual award sponsored by QANTAS
to highlight the talent of young Australian creatives
in fields of fashion, music, film, industrial and object
design, photography, visual communications and
visual arts.
Carly is up against other BV favourites Dion Lee
and Above from Melbourne.
The winners in each category will receive $5000 cash,
$5000 in flights and a 12 month mentorship.

Danielle Atkinson had a career working in indie music
when she had a calling to study Textile Design at East Sydney
TAFE.
Her passion for print design was realised and Danielle launched
her own label focussing on simple shapes with her distinctive prints.
I loved these pieces instantly due to their 70's feel (yes, I'm transparent)
and the garments are all hand made in Australia using either 100% silk
or 100% cotton.

Tonight, I'm going to see another interesting group of live
bands playing at Burst City with Cured Pink, Penguins,
Per Purpose and Melbourne's Pop Singles.
We may have just recovered from last week's Woodland opening (HUGE night)
but I'm going back for more on Saturday night to see another of my favourite
local bands Feathers play.
You may remember them from playing in-store at Blonde Venus
for the Chloe Sevigny/Opening Ceremony launch?
They will joined by Scraps, guest DJ Holly Ryan and regular DJ's
Polar Bear and Harvey Satan and it's only $5.
