Yuki Shibuya.
Yuki describes the philosophy behind his label name in that he believes
that whatever happens in life, it is connected to someone, somewhere, somehow...

The concept for his small menswear line is quality in wardrobe essentials
combining elements of street wear and classic styles.

The California Tee is perfect timing as we get closer to the opening of
the California Design Exhibition that is on it's way from the Los Angeles
County Museum of Art and opening at the Queensland Art Gallery on the 2nd of November.

for those of you that love fireworks.

Friday the 27th
Red Mecca
I'm super hyped to see extraordinary Hobart band The Native Cats
play at Spring Hill's Alliance Hotel tonight for the official launch
of their new album called Dallas.
If seeing the Native Cats wasn't big enough, all of the support bands
are fantastic and all three have been announced on the Sound Summit line-up.

From Bateman's Bay to Brisbane, School Girl Report will open the show
followed by the dynamic duo Chris Campion and Sean Campion
in Multiple Man who are launching their new tape called Built Wrong.

Closing the night are Sydney two-piece Four Door featuring Jonathan Hochman
(Holy Balm) and Matthew Hopkins (Naked on the Vague) who will also be 
launching their new 12".
Doors open at 8pm and it's only $10!
 
 
 
 
 
Saturday the 28th
 
If you're in the mood again on Saturday night, here's another fun mix of
underground Brisbane bands, making for a great party.
Black Vacation, Scrabble, The M-Humm, Thigh Master, You with 
#459, Green Nose and DJ Lame.
It's all happening at The Beetle Bar with doors opening at 7pm and it's only $8 entry!
 
 
The Lavazza Italian Film Festival opens next Wednesday October
the 3rd at Palace Cinemas.
In the meantime you can pick up a printed programme at BV to start your selection.

"For Spring/ Summer 13/14, the journey of the PAGEANT man
takes him on a detour via Jamaica.
High school rude boys relax in the tropical sun in terry-towelling
gear popping in hyper blue and yellow against Memphis-tones marles
of static blue and grey paired with solid navy and black.
Island rhythms get raga with low-fi outdoor sound systems and low-tech
sheer and shiny nylons to match.
Bucket hats, black trimmings and kinesio-inspired tape add structure

You may remember that we previewed this collection at the opening of
Fish Lane Studios last month, so excited to finally have it in store.

It's nice to see some strong new direction in menswear and thrilled that it's Australian.
I have already had girls loving these pieces too due to their uni-sex aesthetic and
exceptional quality Japanese fabrics.

PAGEANT is designed by Kate Reynolds and Amanda Cumming.
The girls both studied at RMIT in Melbourne before doing a stint in London.
Amanda worked for Tim Soar and then Christopher Kane while Kate worked
for Cassette Playa and then Christopher Shannon.
Working for these exciting labels inspired them to come home and set up PAGEANT
and we're so glad that they did.

Room 40 presents Open Frame
Featuring: Laurel Halo and Objekt
@ The Powerhouse, Turbine Platform

This is the third event in this series from Room 40.
The two shows last week were fantastic, if not a little emotionally
exhausting as you are being challenged and surprised in so many ways
by these liberated performers.
Again there's a contrast between Laurel Halo's mood shifting electronic
pop and Objekt's techno adventure…it will be a ride.

Brisbane band The Bell Divers are launching their second album
Ruins supported by The Stress of Leisure, The Slow Push
and Swaying Buildings.

Tuesday the 24th
Copperart
 
 
 
Copperart is a one night only, art event by David Creed
and Angela Rossito.
The artists have recently taken up residency in Fish Lane Studios
where the event will be held.
Inspired by alchemy they have been subjecting salvaged copper wire
into object sculptures.
Likening their new studio space to a 'boudoir', they have used the rooms as a backdrop
to a video recreating 80's and 90's advertisements by Copperart, a homewares shop
from that era that promised affordable luxury.
It sounds mad and amazing!
The exhibition opens at 6pm and Fish Lane Studios is located upstairs at The Fox Hotel,
Corner of Melbourne and Hope Street, South Brisbane.
