New! PROVENSEN Shoes and introducing...Angel Wang Jewellery!

Hi Everyone!

If you are heading to Sydney shortly, their annual Vivid Festival lights up
this Friday the 25th until the 11th of June.

Brian Eno's designs were projected on to the Opera House sails during Vivd in 2010.
This image courtesy of smh.com.au

The festival based on Light, Music and Ideas is known for it's spectacular
light installations around Sydney Harbour and particularly the stunning
3d projections on to the Opera House.

Karen O photographed by James Medcraft at the New York performance of Stop The Virgins

Musical highlights this year include Florence and The Machine,
Kindness and Karen O (Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs) in Stop The Virgins (a psycho opera!)

Last year, the festival drew around 400,000 visitors so it might be squeeeeezy!

For full festival details and programme go to:

Now for some very important news...Ladies, we have NEW SHOES!

Provensen Shoes, Sydney

Buddy
Dip front ankle boot with leather upper and leather sole

Black pebbled leather $249

Tan pebbled leather $249

Navy pebbled leather $249

Faye has done a fabulous job on these!

They are a classic round toe, ankle boot but rather than
cutting you off at the ankle, Faye has dipped down the front
to slim down and lengthen your line.

She has also included some subtle seaming on the front
to visually minimize your foot in the rounded shape.

The leather is a medium weight but super soft pebbled leather.
The Navy and Tan feature brown tone soles and heels and
the Black are all black.
The side zip is a brushed metal finish for a subtle look.

Rosie
Square Toe Lace Up with Leather and Mesh Upper and EVA Sole

Green $179

I wrestled over the colours of these but this Green really
is the coolest!
I love the tonal sole and heel.
It's dark enough to brighten up dark tights and dark outfits
and also bright enough to mix with other brights.
The square toe give you more toe room for comfort and they
are extremely light weight so easy to wear all day long.

Pow Pow
Lace up ankle boot with metal hardware
Leather upper and leather sole

Black $260

Tan $260

These Western inspired Ankle Boots feature a leather covered
heel and subtle gold hardware.
The pointed toe is cunningly shaped for comfort,
giving you enough room for your toes whilst giving you a slim line.

Lulu
Crepe Sole Leather Loafer

Lime $219

Pink $219

These Neon Dreams are my favourite!
Harking back to the must haves on the 90's, the Patrick Cox Wannabes
but with an edgy crepe sole and heel.

This is designer Faye Montalban's third year and third collection.
She is not one to rush things and Faye's Provensen label is a great
example of slow fashion.

So many designers seem to be selling out their brands and fast at the moment,
to anyone who's willing to pay the price.
It makes them lose their charm.

When she launched with her distinctive Desert Boots three years ago
she made many fans and the love has continued.
I posted some photos of these on Facebook on Friday night and it's been mayhem
ever since!

Not only do they look totally cool, but they are SO comfortable!
Easy low and mid heels and all styles have a cosy padded footbed
making them a dream to walk in.
Provensen also size from 35 to 43 - amazing!
Provensen available now at Blonde Venus!

Introducing...

Angel Wang, Brisbane

Debut Jewellery Collection

Gracie Special
Sterling Silver Combination One-Piece Star Choker with Long Drop Star Earrings
$264

Sterling Silver Star Choker $154

Sterling Silver Long Drop Star Earrings $88

Angela Jhang graduated with a BFA in Fashion last year at QUT.
Her graduate collection entitled Angel Sword was inspired by 90's
Norwegian Black Metal culture.
The highly stylized graphics used in the culture inspired Angela's
brand logo which she incorporated into her collection in the form of heavy
garment embroideries.

To finish off the pieces for the runway, Angela designed a small but distinctive
jewellery collection which created such a response, she decided to launch them!

Her debut collection is just these 3 styles - so simple, yet so unique.
I love the tough, sexiness of the very 90's choker and long earrings
and the "one piece" has the same feeling but with a very cool
tribal twist.
Angel Wang is available exclusively at Blonde Venus!

The Outpost Webstore is now LIVE!

Blonde Venus and The Outpost are your classic "bricks and mortar" retail stores.
They are both very much about the experience of the stores themselves.

Both boutiques and what they contain are like candy stores and there is nothing as good
as actually shopping in them.
Feeling, touching, trying, smelling, listening, reading and absorbing the energy.
The fruits of our passion create a unique experience to visit and have
become such a loved part of Brisbane.
Thank you!

There is no way that we can replicate this on-line but to help those of you that
live too far away, Matt has just launched a webstore for The Outpost.

The webstore is a small selection of what is actually available in the store
so, as always, if there is something that you are after, you can still call or
email us and we will organize it for you.

Take a peek and hope you enjoy it!

See you soon,
Thea x

You can probably imagine how many new designer look books I see every season.

Our stores are quite niche so it really is a narrow window of opportunity and with

the world becoming so SAMO, as Basquiat might have said, it seems more difficult

to find something that is fresh.

Kinoak designer Amie Darragh has done her hard fashion yards

She studied Pattern Making and Garment Construction before working

 for Kate Sylvester in Auckland.

She then move to Melbourne for an 8 year stint with one of our favourite long time labels,

 Perks & Mini (PAM).

Amie decided it was time to launch her dream and wanted to name

her label with a new word, something that couldn't be associated with

another time or image.

She came up with the name Kinoak after playing with the words,

family tree.

This same simplistic but thoughtful approach shows in her collection.

The quality of her fabrics and finishing is immaculate

in fact, when the collection arrived, each piece was carefully

pressed and folded and individually wrapped in tissue paper.

Amie has been very particular about the sourcing of her fabrics and garment notions

and the collection is completely hand made in Melbourne.

This debut collection was inspired by the American TV sports drama, Friday Night Lights

which Amie has interpreted into a mix of sporty shapes opposing pretty, feminine pieces.

The outcome - simple, wearable pieces that are beautifully made and trans-seasonal looks

that would work in either hemisphere.

I have already ordered her summer collection so expect to see Kinoak

as part of our family tree for some time now!

KINOAK is available exclusively in Queensland at Blonde Venus.

Long time BV fans and lovers of Mod will remember

when we stocked London label Merc, around 10 years ago.

Well, it's back!

Merc was established by Javid Alavi in 1967.

It started out as a market stall on Carnaby and quickly

grew to a small shop on Ganton Street and finished up at

number 10 Carnaby Street, the prime location in which

the store still stands today.

During the 60's, Britain broke out it's post-war austerity

and experienced an explosion of bands like The Beatles

and The Rolling Stones along with an exciting new fashion

scene in London and particularly on Carnaby Street.

Through the years, the Mod(ernist) style has been adopted

and adapted by the coolest music genres and their bands,

from The Small Faces in their paisley shirts to Desmond Dekker

and Jimmy Cliffe in their button down shirts and tonic suits.

From the Suedeheads of the early 70's in their 3 button suits (Prince of Wales

and Dogtooth) with brogues and loafers through to the Punks in their

shrunken polos, braces and Harrington jackets.

In the late 70's, Two Tone Records spawns a Ska revival

with bands like The Specials, Madness and Bad Manners.

Here enters the Rude Boys!

The Jam

The early 1980's sees a full Mod revival with a big thanks to Paul Weller

and The Jam followed by The Style Council.

Blur

On the eve of the Britpop explosion in the early 90's, Damon Albarn and

the boys from Blur become regulars at the Merc store.

So the look that grew from 1950's jazz modernists has stood

the test of time.

It's now heritage and some may simply see them as "classic"

shirts or jackets but I love the history, the music and the story

that they can tell.

Merc is available exclusively in Brisbane at Blonde Venus!

Dr Denim, Sweden

The Snap Jean in NEW Deep Plum joins Coffee, Navy and Blue Denim

Edwin, Japan

ED88 Super Slim Stretch Mid Rise with Zip Fly in Zen Blue Rinsed $169

ED88 Super Slim Stretch Mid Rise with Zip Fly in Last Blue Denim Rinsed $179

ED88 Super Slim Stretch Mid Rise with Zip Fly in Abyss Black Rigger Wash $240

ED55 Relaxed Tapered Fit, Mid Rise Button Fly in Quartz Blue Woven Denim Greaser Wash $179

Edwin SEN Skinny in Inky Blue Stretch Selvage Denim $219

A client told me this week that he has had his Edwin Jeans for 4 years and he still wears them

constantly.

I love to hear that the things we sell are of such great quality - that they are cool but can stand

the test of time, in more ways than one!

Edwin mill their own denim and produce their own jeans in Japan and have been doing

so since the late 1940's.

It's an amazing company story built on family and tradition which is why I also love them.

Edwin available now at Blonde Venus with selected styles at The Outpost!

If you're in New York...

See the exhibition that everyone seems to be talking about this week.

It's Elsa Schiaparelli Vs. Muiccia Prada and it's showing now at

The Metropolitan Museum of Art, NY until August 19.

Save The Date!

See you soon!
