Introducing... A Detacher NY plus Beaucoops+Karen Walker!

Hi Everyone!

Here are our Trading Hours for this Easter/Anzac long weekend -

Friday 22nd - closed

Saturday 23rd - 10am to 6pm

Sunday 24th - closed

Monday 25th - closed

Tuesday 26th - open 11am to 4:30pm

I have done a ring around to our neighbours and it seems

that most stores are also doing these hours including -

The Outpost (naturally)

Flamingo Cafe

LIttle Jane Street

Sunday Social

So please feel to pick me up a coffee at Flamingo (soy latte no sugar) and come and

say hello!

Looking forward to a much needed few days off as it is only 10 days

to Rosemount Australian Fashion Week!

I will be doing a little daily blogging for Pedestrian.tv again so I will do my

best to give you a little inside look at what's happening in Sydney and previews

of what we hope to be wearing next summer!

This year my side kick and right hand woman (I am actually left handed so that

does make sense) will be Monique White who is curently a 2nd year fashion

student at QUT.

Monique has a very cool, natural sense of style and a great eye so I'm thrilled to have

her helping me out with the showings.

Here is what has JUST arrived...

Introducing...

A Detacher, New York

NH Spring/Summer 11

Dorothea Dress in Printed Bias Cut Silk $767

Dragana Dress with contrast sleeves in Gray Cotton $649

Tillie Puffed Sleeve Top in Brown & Blue Rose Print Cotton $495

Didion Criss Cross Tan Webbing Sandal with a Leather Sole and Chunky 1 3/4" Wooden Heel  $386

Didion Criss Cross Green Suede Sandal with a Leather Sole and Chunky 1 3/4" Wooden Heel  $386

Polish born Mona Kowalska started her design career working for various European labels and

at one time headed the design studio for Sonia Rykiel.

In 1998, she launched her own label A Detacher and set up her boutique in Nolita, New York.

Mona takes an avant garde approach from her unusual fabric choices and print designs,

her unique colour combinations and her clever draping and twisting techniques which have become

her signature.

A Detatcher has been one of the very few labels on the NY fashion week circuit that  continuously

caught my eye.

I have so looked forward to her work every season and decided that we absolutely had to have it here!

We have also received Della, the oversized twist front dress in Coffee Gauze ($616).

A Detacher is available exclusively in Australia at Blonde Venus!

Beaucoops + Karen Walker

Mule in Tan Leather with Natural Linen Insert, 4" Wooden Heel with 1.5" Wooden Platform $385

Thatcher Tan Leather Court Shoe with Natural Linen Insert, 4" Wooden Heel and 1.5" Wooden Platform $396

I walked these through the store and they seem to go with virtually every piece that we have

in,  from Karen Walker's  Perfect Day Collection to the Richard Nicoll, the Dress Up, the Lover,

the Sara Phillips, the Antipodium,  the A Detacher...just brilliant!

These shoes are hand made in Italy with leather lining and a lightly padded footbed.

The nice platform also takes the edge of the tall heel.

Karen Walker in store now at Blonde Venus!

What's New at The Outpost?

Uppercut, Brisbane

Ahhh, Man Products.

They are often difficult to be swayed but when they do actually become enamoured

by that special feeling of personal treats, it can become an obsession.

In fact ladies, you may find yourself fighting for space in the bathroom cabinet,

the bathroom bench, the shower, the bathroom window ledge...

Seriously, the guys behind the best barber shop in Brisbane, Barebones

introduced the Uppercut Deluxe hair shaping products a little while ago and they

have been sooooooooo successful that they decided to introduce some

more Man Love Products including -

Shampoo/Body Wash

Conditioner

Face Balm

...along with their Matt Clay and Deluxe Pomade.

Prices are only $15 to $25 and would also make a great gift.

Uppercut Deluxe in store now at The Outpost!

This Saturday night, The Keep On Dancin's are doing their

album launch at Woodland, supported by Brisbane babes Feathers

and fresh from their US tour Blank Realm.

Tickets are $10 and there's even an old fashioned Easter Egg hunt.

If you happen to be in the vicinity of the Monash Gallery of Art in Victoria,

they have just opened an exhibition that I would love to see with work by Australian

photographer Paul Cox.

Paul taught photography at Prahran College in the 1970's

where his students included Carol Jerrems and Robert Ashton.

The exhibition is called Age of Aquarius and for more information, go to:

Did you see Pains of Being Pure at Heart on Letterman last night?

So cute...

Keep a look out for the Easter Beagle and see you soon!

New Season! Dress Up, Dion Lee, Lover, Fred Perry & More!

Hi Everyone!

I popped in to the IMA last night for Light Cipher - films and expanded cinema

performances from British artist Greg Pope in collaboration with musician Mike Cooper.

Why would you bother going home and turning on the TV when events like this

can be so much more enlightening.

We are only a few weeks away from Rosemount Australian Fashion Week again

and I was ecstatic to hear that London based fashion blogger Susie Lau from

Style Bubble will again be coming over to see the shows and visit the showrooms

of our Australian designers.

I don't have time for most alleged fashion blogs but Susie's is the only one that I go to on a

somewhat regular basis because (apart from being one of the first) she is genuine.

Quite frankly, I don't know how she keeps it up, but that's what passion will do for you.

As promised, here's the update on our new season deliveries...

This collection features some of my favourite elements from the 20's, 30's, 40's and 50's,

all blended together in a very soft, modern way and her colour palette - beautiful!

Dress Up by Stephanie Downey is available exclusively in Queensland at Blonde Venus!

Hosiery Gathered Skirt in Flesh $590

Matt Silk Crepe Tuxedo Jacket in Flesh $890

It's all based on rope and mirrors.

Conceptual designers like Dion Lee don't like to make things easy on themselves.

Designing for him is not as simple as following a trend forecasting report

or taking "inspiration" from bigger labels from the northern hemisphere.

With his main line, Dion works from a concept and each design is intimately detailed.

With this collection, Dion was working with rope and knotting in garments, which led him to developing

the stunning red wool jacquard.

Dion had the fabric exclusively woven in Italy which he then over printed

with neon pink to give it even more distinction and definition.

His construction obsession led him to explore the concealing and revealing of

techniques, almost in reverse of what we would expect.

The outcome is a combination of soft and hard - sexy almost bondage pieces mixed

with shadows and draping in the softest of fabrics.

Dion Lee is available exclusively in Queensland at Blonde Venus.

New! Richard Nicoll, Lover, Karen Walker Eyewear, Cheap Monday...

Hi Everyone!

So I missed you on Friday but there's been so much going on.

Call this some mid-week madness.

I popped into Level Art Gallery at Newstead on Friday night for the opening of their

New Exhibitions.

Artists include wonderful drawings by Lucy Griggs (who has just

joined with Milani Gallery) and also Trudy Brinckmann, Nicola Page,

Saskia Pandji Sakti, Utako Shindo and Linda Tegg.

This exhibition continues until April 29th.

Please visit their Facebook page for more details -

I picked up a take-away coffee from Jaimie's yesterday and their

were a group of people having  very leisurely Tuesday afternoon beers.

I had just worked many, many days straight in the store and was feeling...jealous

and wanting for more leisure time.

It's not long to the Easter weekend at least!

I wish I had more time for MORE FILM.

We went from the French Film Festival,  straight into the German one

which actually finished yesterday.

We are now right in the middle of the Brisbane Queer Film Festival which

runs until the 17th of April at the Brisbane Powerhouse.

Lovers of classic film will appreciate the special screenings of Who's Afraid of

Virginia Woolf at the city's Tribal Theatre, as a special tribute to Elizabeth Taylor.

This film was nominated for 13 Academy Awards and won 5 awards including

Best Actress by Elizabeth Taylor.

If you haven't seen it before, be prepared for a bumpy ride.

It's quite an honest portrayal of a couple in an abusive, alcoholic relationship but

a real taste of incredible acting by Elizabeth and also Richard Burton.

A big thanks to the Tribal Theatre for screening films of this genre and quality.

Ithey're on a Taylor tribute, I would love to see Suddenly Last Summer (with Montgomery Clift)

A Place in the Sun, Giant (with James Dean) and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and please, please

more classic cinema - Marlene Dietrich, Bette Davis, Monroe, Bacall, Hepburn et al...

Well the programmers at the GoMA's Cinematheque must have heard me.

I have seen a teaser for "an extensive retrospective of Alfred Hitchcock"

Aaagh! (Feigns heart attack)

No dates on this yet but I absolutely adore so many of his films.

I'm hoping to see some of his pre Hollywood works like

The Lady Vanishes and The 39 Steps through to his more commercial ones

like The Man Who New Too Much, Marnie and Vertigo ON A BIG SCREEN.

The Cinematheque's next big thing is an amazing selection of music based

films under the title Let There Be Rock.

This programme starts on the 29th of April and runs until the 5th of June.

I have already diarised many to see including documentaries on The White Stripes,

The Stains, The Ramones and The Dirty Three as well as classic music based feature films

Ziggy Stardust & The Spiders from Mars, Hair, Quadrophenia, Dogs in Space and yes,

even Purple Rain.

For full programme details, go to -

Take a look at these!

Richard chose the mid 1970's as the starting point for this collection referencing

David Bowie and then choosing Bowie's Station To Station album as the soundtrack

for this runway show.

Also from the era he mentioned an image of Tina Chow wearing a vintage Fortuny gown.

Tina Chow was an international model from half Japanese, half German/American parentage,

who married restauranter Michael Chow in the 1970's.

Tina Chow by Andy Warhol

Tina and Michael Chow

Tina in vintage Fortuny

She was known for her stunning androgynous looks and her incredible style and over the

years collected a luscious couture wardrobe that was mostly auctioned by Christies after her death in 1992.

Tina was a regular on the Warhol party circuit and was close friends with Andy, Jean-Michel Basquiat,

Antonia Lopez, Paloma Picasso and Manolo Blahnik.

So...are you feeling the Richard Nicoll mood now?

I love how he toughened up the pleating in this collection with

the patent leather and the sheer, sexy layers of tulle over triangle bras.

Crank up the Bowie, pull out the red lipstick and find a good staircase to

walk that cape down!

We have also received:

Peach Silk Crepe de Chine Open Back Blouse with Silk Satin trim in Coral $409

Richard Nicoll available exclusively in Queensland at Blonde Venus.

This striking new look book plays on the androgyny theme in a way that could

be described as "sci-fi albino"?

They're my words but that's what you were thinking right?

Shot in New York again by renowned photgrapher Derek Kettela,

the campaign features models Wiktor Hansson and Stephen Thompson.

You will also be happy to see some favourite styles have stayed in the collection.
